Here in the States, the IPCC gets labeled with a “liberal” moniker simply because it recognizes the reality of global warming, but its slow, deliberative process actually makes it incredibly conservative, and while its predictions may seem shocking and frightening to the ignorant, the nature of the IPCC means that it has systematically underestimated the problem we face.  Hence, why every adjustment we make, every time we find our models have gone off, they’ve always underestimated the pace and impact of global warming.  This article in Nature by Roger Pielke, Jr, Tom Wigley & Christopher Green gets into more details about the IPCC’s “dangerous assumptions.”  For a condensed version, see Living on Earth’s coverage of the same.  - Jason
